Description

Brownhouse Farmhouse and the adjoining outbuilding to the west is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was remodeled in the 18th century. The building is constructed from regularly coursed squared gritstone and features quoins on the advanced gable at the west end, along with gable copings. It has a single intermediate brick stack and a sidewall ashlar stack, which now has a brick top at the west end. The roof is plain tiled.

The farmhouse has an 'L' shaped range, with a gabled west end that is two storeys high with attics. The remaining three bays are also two storeys, featuring 20th-century two-light casements on the first floor and two and three-light casements on the ground floor. There is a former three-light recessed chamfered mullioned window at the east end, which now has a single mullion and two square lights with chamfered surrounds, one of which is blocked. There are two doorways beneath plain lintels, one of which is planked and the other half-glazed.

The advanced wing has stacked recessed chamfer mullioned windows of two and three lights, which are beneath drip moulds. The ground floor opening has been altered to a two-light window, formerly a four-light window, and the attic lights have been blocked. The adjoining outbuilding to the west features an external stone stairway leading to an overloft.
