Description
1 Granby Street, also known as Natwest Bank, and 2 Horsefair Street is a building dating from 1870, designed by architect Millican in the Italianate style. It is constructed of yellow brick with stone dressings and stands three storeys tall on a corner site. The Granby Street elevation features six windows, while the Horsefair Street elevation has eight windows.
The ground floor has tall windows set in moulded architraves with sill aprons and a cornice supported by large console brackets. The first floor includes moulded architraves and a sill band, topped by a large modillion cornice. The second floor features round arch windows with keyblocks and a continuous impost mould. A balustraded parapet with urns at the corners adds to the decorative elements. The building has chamfered quoins and a curved corner, with the ground and first floors rusticated. The entrance is highlighted by a rectangular fanlight and very large console brackets that support a cornice above, leading to a shallow balustered balcony over a three-light window on the first floor. There is a large modern shop at the ground floor on the right side of the Horsefair Street elevation.
