Description

Lloyd's Bank is an Italianate building from the High Victorian period, featuring two storeys and four bays. Originally, it had a basement, which has since been blocked up to serve as a bank vault. The structure is constructed from yellowish limestone ashlar, possibly Bath stone, with some grey limestone used in the arch squinches and plinth. The exterior is mostly smooth ashlar, accented by vermiculated long and short quoins, rusticated window surrounds on the ground floor, and rock-faced infill around the squinches of the ground floor window heads, along with a rock-faced plinth.

The ground floor showcases four arched openings, consisting of three windows on the left and a door on the right. One of the left-hand windows has been lengthened to accommodate a cash machine, which disrupts the plinth. The windows feature plate glass with separate fanlights, while the door is panelled and topped with a radiating fanlight. A cornice separates the ground and first floors. The first floor is primarily smooth ashlar, except for the quoins, and includes four arched windows with marginal glazing and drip moulds, along with a frieze, cornice, and a plain parapet. Although the roof is not visible from the front, it can be seen from the side and is covered in Welsh slate. The side elevation is made of squared rubble laid in narrow courses, with some ashlar dressings and arched windows on the ground floor, plus one visible chimney stack.

Inside, the Banking Hall has been modified with modern bank fittings and a false ceiling, but the main room likely retains much of its original character, although it can only be partially viewed.
