Description
The entrance gateway to St. James's Church comprises limestone ashlar piers supporting cast-iron gates, one of which is missing as of 1996. The piers are in a Greek Revival style, featuring block bases, pylon shafts with incised decoration, a plain cornice, and caps. The incised ornament mirrors the decoration found on the pilasters within the adjacent Town Hall's Council Chamber. The decorative gate has a row of quatrefoils along its bottom edge and two larger quatrefoils in the centre.
