Description

Glantorfaen House is a large, square, three-storey building with a basement, constructed from squared grey rock-faced coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and squared pink limestone rubble on the return elevation. The front of the house features five windows: the ground floor windows have segmental heads with keystones, the first floor has segmental plain heads, and the top floor has smaller windows with square heads. All windows have dressed surrounds and are modern replacements with one over one panes, with the lower panes hinged to open outwards. The central doorway is recessed and features a panelled door with a dressed surround, a segmental head, and a fanlight above. The central window on the first floor is an oriel window with a Venetian design and sidelights, which has a keyed head and roundels on either side, topped with a tented lead roof. There is a plat band at the first floor level and an eaves cornice, while the roof is not visible from the street.

On the side elevation facing Glentorvaen Road, there is a prominently detailed projecting porch located centrally. This porch has square piers with horizontal rustication, stiff-leaf caps, and rises into panelled blocks above. The entrance is arched and supported by paired Ruskinian Gothic stiff-leaf colonnettes made of polished red granite. The arch features panelled squinches with roundels and a cornice on paired brackets above. The sides of the porch also have arch-headed windows. The door is flanked by one over one sash windows. The plat band continues above the porch, forming a cill band for a single tall stair window with three panes arranged one above another and a segmental head. Above this, there is a cornice and a central dormer window with a segmental roof.

The interior was not inspected during the resurvey in October 1996.
