Description
The Pontypool Register Office is a two-storey building constructed from squared limestone rubble, featuring freestone quoins and dressings, likely made from Bath stone, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It exhibits a simple domestic style and is arranged in three bays, with a central entrance flanked by projecting canted bays that rise to gables. The entrance consists of three panel double doors set in a quoined frame, topped with an overlight divided into narrow panes. To the left of the entrance is a small oval lobby window. Above the door, there is a stone balcony supported by large turned balusters and a central block, with glazed French doors and an overlight behind it. The canted bays on either side of the entrance are made of ashlar and have four 6 over 6 sash windows on each floor. The gables feature applied boarding and plain bargeboards, while the building is topped with a tall hipped roof that includes a prominent stack with weathering. The side and rear elevations contain plain 6 over 6 sash windows. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey in November 1996.
