Description

West Farmhouse is a two-storey building with an L-shaped plan and a rear service wing, constructed from random local lias limestone rubble. Parts of the exterior are clad with vertical crazy paving, slate hung, and rendered and painted, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The main elevation features three window bays, with the entrance located between the second and third bays. To the left, there is an 8 over 8 pane sash window with a plain sash above, both framed with cement architraves. Following this are two full-height early to mid 19th century battlemented stone ashlar bays, each with timber windows: one with 3 over 15 panes and the other with 3 over 9 panes, separated by a panelled band. All these windows are late 20th century replacements. The central entrance consists of a square-headed panelled door beneath a hipped slate-roofed canopy hood. The doorway shows signs of having been inserted, indicating that the house may have originally had an end entry design, with the wall above covered in crazy paving. The roof has a fairly low pitch with eaves, end gables, and three stone stacks; the left gable stack is a late addition, while the right gable stack is significantly larger. The west gable is partially slate hung and features a small modern window. The rear wing has two modern windows and a stone gable stack, and the rear elevation has been altered.

The interior was not available for resurvey, but it appears that the front door is positioned in a cross-passage, with heated rooms to the left and right, and an additional heated room beyond on the left. This room is reported to have broad chamfered ceiling beams.
