Description

The Old Rectory, also known as Balfour House, is a Grade II listed building constructed from local lias limestone, featuring squared and random rubble with blue lias quoins and dressings, topped with Welsh slate roofs. This large two-storey square block has parallel roofs aligned north to south.

The main south elevation consists of three bays, with the outer bays being taller and having hipped roofs. There is a large ground floor window with a narrower one above, likely sash windows, although they are currently boarded over. The central entrance bay has a window similar to the others but is shorter due to a lower eaves height. To the right, there is a modern doorway and porch supported by fluted columns. The building shows signs of more than one construction phase, indicated by straight joints.

On the east elevation, there are three windows of varying widths but the same height on each floor. The west elevation features five narrower windows, while the north elevation has windows of different sizes, including some 20th-century insertions, along with a first-floor escape door that is also a modern addition. The west wing has two truncated stacks, with the rest having been removed.

The interior was not accessible during the resurvey, but it is reported to have been converted into flats.
