Description
The former barn at Castleton Farm is a Grade II listed building made of local lias limestone rubble. Originally believed to have served as the gate-house to the castle, it has since been converted for domestic use. The main body of the barn features primarily medieval walling, with a later gable that projects from the center, concealing recorded arched entries. The front includes French doors and a window, with a boarded door to the left in an existing opening, above which is a 2-light window that has been converted from a vent. To the right, there is a slit vent. Adjacent to the barn is an added granary, which has stairs leading to an upper floor door, accompanied by a 2-light window to the left. This section has a lower ridge line. The rear elevation was not visible during the resurvey, but it was previously noted to have a 19th-century lean-to. The interior was also not accessible at the time of resurvey, but the barn has been converted to domestic use since it was first listed. The two tall 2-centred arch stone openings recorded by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales are likely still in place.
