Description
The Dovecote at East Orchard is a freestanding gabled building, constructed from roughly coursed local lias limestone rubble, featuring dressed quoins and openings. It measures about 4 meters square. On the south side, there is a small doorway with a surround made of large stones and a segmental head. Additionally, there is a doorway in the upper part of the west gable and a window in the lower part of the east gable, which indicate that it may have had a two-floored agricultural use when East Orchard was a farm. The low-pitched gables still show some crow-steps, although the roof is missing. Inside, the walls are lined with nesting boxes.
