Description
Nos 53 and 55 on Market Place are late 19th-century buildings made of red brick with painted stone dressings and a slate roof. They rise four storeys with an attic and feature four rectangular windows, each set in a moulded stone architrave containing casements. The second-floor windows have a continuous narrow balcony supported by large brackets. There are moulded string courses, and the smaller attic windows are topped with small gables that have stone coping and ball-finials. At the time of the survey in 1973, a large shop was being fitted. These buildings are included for their group value with other listed buildings on the east side of Market Place.
