Description
No. 96 on Osmaston Road is a large villa built in the late 19th century, designed in the Gothic style. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and has two storeys plus a basement. The front features two stone-coped gables topped with wrought iron finials. To the left, there is a canted bay that rises over two storeys, with windows that have cusped, pointed arched heads set between pilasters adorned with foliated capitals. On the right, a rounded bay contains mullioned windows, with the central ones featuring cusped, arched heads and a rusticated, pointed arched surround decorated with quatrefoils, all topped by a slate pinnacle. To the left, a recessed bay includes a doorway framed by a pointed arched surround with pilaster sides, leading to an oak batten door with elaborate face-hinges. A quatrefoil is present in the left-hand gable, and the villa has a slate roof with an ornamental ridge. At the rear, there is a long wing that maintains a similar character.
