Description
No. 205 on St Marychurch Road is a villa, built around the 1840s, that has been significantly extended at the rear in the 20th century. The exterior is finished in stucco and features a hipped slate roof with stacks that have rendered shafts. The original plan of the villa is double-depth and two rooms wide, though the exact position of the original porch is unclear.
The building is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical garden front with two windows. It features deep, boxed eaves with an eaves band. On the ground floor, there are two tripartite windows, which are glazed with late 19th-century sashes that include horizontal glazing bars. The first floor has two smaller windows of a similar style, complete with Venetian shutters. A charming trellis verandah spans the front of the villa, topped with a lean-to glazed roof. The screen walls on either side of the verandah lead to single-storey extensions and include round-headed windows. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have been altered, with the original stair replaced.
