SX9265 FORE STREET, St Marychurch 885-1/12/432 Chilcote Memorial including 3 street lamps

GV II

Chilcote memorial. c1886. Granite and polished granite monument including 3 cast-iron street lights. Grey and pink granite obelisk on 3 granite steps at road junction. Monument commemorates Herbert Nicholas Chilcote, d.1886. Matching cast-iron lamps are decorated with foliage panels and a ribbon moulding round the standard. Lamps have large cylindrical finials. A good example of C19 street furniture, occupying a prominent position.
