Description

The Chilcote Memorial, dating from around 1886, is a granite and polished granite monument that includes three cast-iron street lamps. It features a grey and pink granite obelisk set on three granite steps at a road junction. The monument commemorates Herbert Nicholas Chilcote, who died in 1886. The matching cast-iron lamps are adorned with foliage panels and a ribbon moulding around the standard, and they have large cylindrical finials. This memorial is a notable example of 19th-century street furniture and occupies a prominent position.
