Description
This is a monument to John Chalk, located 6 metres north of the Lych Gate in Great Totham, and it dates from 1903. Made of cast iron by the Etna Foundry, the monument commemorates John Chalk, who died on April 30, 1903, at the age of 25. It features a central inscribed rectangular panel, a moulded base, and a cornice. The sides have moulded recessed pilasters that support an ornate urn. The urn has a foliate stem, fluted sides, and a lid, with incurved handles. It is draped from the left with a garland of bay leaves and flowers. This monument is considered a rare type of churchyard memorial.
