Description
The lamp posts at each corner of the War Memorial were built around 1920. They feature a granite base with a cast iron pylon and decorative details. Each fluted cast iron pylon base rests on a weathered granite plinth. The pylon is a tapering square-section latticework design with a central cartouche, topped by another cartouche set between diagonal scrolls. This supports a moulded pedestal and a large cuboidal box with chamfered corners, which has crossed torches moulded on its outer face. Each lamp post is equipped with two spherical white lampshades that hang from baluster-like drops attached to two moulded arms on either side of the cuboidal box. The box is finished with a small festooned pedestal that has a cornice and a classical finial. The four lamp posts are positioned at 45 degrees to the War Memorial and are located at each corner.
