Description

The Serbian Orthodox Church of Apostles St Peter and St Paul is a parish church built between 1839 and 1840, with a chancel added in 1865 and minor alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of ashlar stone with ashlar dressings and features concrete tile roofs. The church has raised coped gables and a chamfered plinth.

The nave includes galleries, a small chancel, and a ritual west tower with a porch. The main facade showcases a projecting central tower with angle buttresses and an octagonal stone spire that has a single set of lucarnes and a weather vane. The central double doors are adorned with pointed arch panels above which is a 3-light pointed arch window featuring panel tracery, along with an inscription indicating it was originally built as Christ Church. Above this, there is a square panel with a circular clock framed by a Tudor hood mould. The octagonal bell stage has a small single lancet opening on each major face, and both sides of the church are flanked by pilaster buttresses at either end, with six tall chamfered lancets. The additional chancel has three single lancet windows.

Inside, the church features side and west galleries supported by cast iron columns. The plaster ceilings are embellished with arched beams that rest on moulded stone corbels. The interior includes late 19th-century bench pews, a wooden pulpit, and a lectern. The pointed chancel arch has a painted inscription, and the chancel is equipped with a brass altar rail and wooden choir stalls.
