Description
The Church of All Saints is a church built between 1814 and 1815, with enlargements in 1844 and the addition of a chancel in 1880. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with the roof concealed, and is designed in the Gothick style. The church features a nave with north and south aisles and a west tower that is flanked by stair-turrets.
The tower is divided into two stages by a mid-level band of blank arcading and has polygonal corner turrets topped with embattlements, along with an embattled parapet. The west doorway is moulded and 2-centred arched, featuring a hoodmould and a recessed door. Above this, there is a 2-centred arched 2-light west window with tracery, and at the upper level, each side has a small square-headed belfry window with two arched louvred lights, along with a clockface directly above, which has a drip-band arched over it. The stair-turrets are two-storeyed, with chamfered corners, first-floor bands, embattled parapets, and two traceried single-light windows at the upper level.
The side walls of the church are buttressed and have two tiers of 4-centred arched 2-light windows, with the upper tier being taller and all windows featuring hoodmoulds. The chancel includes a 5-light east window with a transom and Perpendicular tracery. Inside, there is a narthex that was enlarged in the 1960s, and galleries on three sides supported by cast-iron columns, with the north and south galleries being shortened at the east end.
