Description

This barn, located approximately 30 metres northwest of the Estate House, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and is now used as workshops. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn has seven internal bays and an elliptical-arched cart entry on the left side. At the rear, there is an opposing cart entry on the right. Near the centre, there is a first-floor doorway accessed by a flight of stone steps. To the left of this doorway, there is another doorway with flanking lights, all under deep lintels, along with two square pitching holes that have been converted into windows at a high level. Inside, the barn contains seven roof trusses with deep oak tie-beams and slender sawn softwood fishbone trusses, as well as a brick cross-wall between bays four and five. Late 20th-century rafters are also present. The barn is included for its group value.
