Description
This is a milepost located approximately 500 metres west of the West Bretton traffic island. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and features a cast-iron triangular front mounted on a stone post with a rounded top. The upper part of the cast-iron front is missing. The raised letters on the milepost indicate the distances to Denby and Wakefield, reading: "DENBY 6 MILES 4½ MILES." This milepost marks the route of the Wakefield and Denby Dale turnpike road established in 1825.
