Description

Farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th or early 18th century, although substantially rebuilt. It is constructed of deeply coursed hammer-dressed stone with quoins, and has a stone slate roof with gable copings on cut kneelers. The house is two storeys high and arranged in an L-shape. The two main facades, set at a 90-degree angle to each other, each have three bays with modern window openings. A central doorway leads to the garden front, featuring a chamfered surround. Two doorways are present on the other front, also at 90 degrees. The left gable has a two-light double-chamfered window in the apex, and evidence of an earlier window on both the ground and first floors, with hood moulds remaining. The rear elevation has a blocked early doorway with a deep lintel, and a tall, double-chamfered window with a hood mould. Reference: H. N. Pobjoy, A History of Emley, 1970.
