Description

Gardener's Cottage, along with its attached garden walls, sheds, and cart sheds, dates from the early to mid 19th century. The building features ashlar stone and Welsh slate roofs, while the garden walls are made of red brick. This single-storey cottage is centrally located, with the garden walls curving forward to each side. The sheds and cart sheds lean against the rear of the left wall and have a curved shape.

The cottage originally had a symmetrical five-bay front, with the central bay slightly projecting and rusticated. It once had a central door, which has been replaced by a 12-pane sash window with a flat arch. There are 12-pane sash windows on either side, with the far-right window now serving as a doorway. The cottage is topped with a tall balustraded parapet and has a hipped roof, supported by two ashlar chimneys.

At the rear, the sheds create a low range, with window and door openings that are skewed to align with the sloping ground, resulting in non-rectangular shapes. The doors and glazing have been shaped to fit these openings. The structure features a deep plinth, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. To the left of the sheds is a nine-bay cart shed, which was originally open but now has doors. This cart shed is separated by square stone piers that have bases and caps. The original brick walls once extended continuously across the south side of the garden, but the lower wall has since been demolished.
