Description

This is a milepost located approximately 600 metres south of the junction with Park Road, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It features a cast-iron triangular front mounted on a stone post with a rounded top. The raised letters on the milepost indicate the following: "BARNSLEY & GRANGEMOOR ROAD BRETTON WEST HUDDERSFIELD BARNSLEY 10¼ MILES 6 MILES BRETTON ½ MILE." This milepost marks the route of the Barnsley and Grangemoor turnpike road, which was established between 1758 and 1759.
