Description

Ridgeway House is a house built in 1848 for Mr. Blackett, a linen yarn draper. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features hipped slate roofs in a Classical style. The building has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with a layout of four bays by three bays.

The east entrance front includes a central porch supported by Tuscan columns, featuring double panelled doors with an overlight above. There is a blocking course and a deep modillion cornice. The right bay of the facade projects forward, and the windows throughout are fitted with plate-glass sashes. A moulded string course runs along the first floor and at the sill levels, with a modillion eaves cornice and large chimney stacks on both sides.

On the left side, the garden front presents an irregular facade. The wide left bay has a hipped roof and may be a later addition. The central bay on the ground floor features a canted bay window with narrow mullions, console brackets, an entablature, and a blocking course, with paired and single lights above. To the right, the canted bay window has wider mullions and a single light above. The interior has not been inspected.
