Description

The gatehouse to Devonshire Hall, built in the mid-19th century, features coursed square stone and ashlar construction with slate hipped roofs. The central part of the structure is not visible, but it includes cast-iron gates. The design consists of a central round carriage arch flanked by single-storey, two-bay cottages. The west facade showcases each cottage with a central four-panel door and flanking paired glazing-bar sashes, all set within moulded architraves. A moulded eaves cornice extends through as moulded imposts to the tall keyed central archway, which is adorned with a modillion eaves cornice and a pierced parapet featuring alternating large and small roundels. On the rear side facing the road, there are two narrow windows for each cottage and a rendered stack at the outer corners. The double gates are decorated with geometric patterns, including paired circles and flower motifs below the lock bars. The interior has not been inspected. For original setting and history, refer to Devonshire Hall: Old Hall.
