Description

This is a milestone located east of the east gateway to Kirkstall Forge, dated 1829 and made for the firm of Butler and Beecroft. It features a tall, slender, rusticated pyramid topped with a ball finial. An iron plaque on the milestone bears the inscription: 'TO LONDON 200 MILES S/ TO EDINBURGH 200 MILES N/ ERECTED A.D.1829/ B & B/ KIRKSTALL FORGE 1779/ LEEDS 3.3/4 MILES'.
