Description
Kirkstall Forge consists of two former cottages, now used as offices, along with a screen wall and gate pier. These structures date from the late 18th century and were altered in the 19th century. They were likely built for the Beecroft and Butler families. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared gritstone and feature a slate roof. They are two stories tall with two first-floor windows. The right side has quoins, while each bay has a doorway, which has been converted into a window on the left, with tie-stone jambs on the left and a plain surround on the right. The ground floor has two large square windows, both with lowered sills, and the upper floor features three-light flat-faced mullion windows, although the right window has been rebuilt. There are brick stacks to the right of each bay. The screen wall extends to the right, standing approximately 3 meters high and 4 meters long, with rounded coping. It has a doorway that is now a window on the left, a loophole on the right, and a plaque commemorating an insertion during the Second World War. To the far right, there is a gate pier made of rusticated ashlar topped with a ball finial. The interior has not been inspected.
