Description

Kirkstall Lock is a lock on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, built between 1770 and 1777, with 20th-century restoration and alterations. It features two pairs of timber gates and cast-iron machinery, along with ashlar and gritstone retaining walls for the lock and overflow channel. The lock raises the canal by approximately 2 meters. Notably, a view of the lock was painted by JMW Turner during his tour of Yorkshire in 1824.
