Description

Forge Locks is a flight of three locks built between 1770 and 1777 on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The locks feature dressed millstone grit walls that ramp up to the lower two lock gates, with steps on each side. Steel footbridges have replaced the single wooden bridge on the downstream side of each gate. There is an overflow and side channel on the south side. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal was constructed from 1770 to 1816, with the section from Leeds to Gargrave completed by 1777.
