Description

HORSFORTH SCOTLAND LANE SE 23 NW LS 18 (east side, off) 8/151 Stables and barn 10.12.1984 approx. 10 metres north-west of Ling Bob Farnhouse (formerly listed by inclusion with "Adjacent farmhouse ... at Ling Bob Farm") GV II

Stables and barn. Barn dated 1680 on lintel of doorway. Coursed squared sandstone with quoins, slate roof. Long range on north-south axis facing east, with barn forming northern half. Large segmental-headed wagon doorway near north end, with chamfered surround; to the left, 2 square windows at ground floor level and a square pitching-hole above and between; further left, a Tudor-arched doorway with chamfered surround, the lintel with raised lettering in panels: " D ; to left of this doorway, a vertical joint M C 1680" with quoins to the barn. The stable range to the left has a central stable door flanked by square windows, and 3 square openings above.

Interior of barn: 4 bays, with rear aisle; 3 aisle posts (one post cased with brick, others concealed by hay at time of survey), with braces to aisle- plate, and the northernmost with brace to tie-beam, which carries a king post roof truss (other trusses altered). (Stable range at right-angles to north end of barn not included in the item).
