Description

The stables and barn at Ling Bob Farmhouse are a Grade II listed building, dated 1680, as indicated by the lintel of the doorway. Constructed from coursed squared sandstone with quoins and a slate roof, the structure is oriented on a north-south axis, with the barn occupying the northern half.

The barn features a large segmental-headed wagon doorway near the north end, which has a chamfered surround. To the left of this doorway are two square windows at ground floor level, along with a square pitching-hole above and between them. Further left is a Tudor-arched doorway, also with a chamfered surround, and the lintel bears raised lettering in panels that reads "D;" to the left of this doorway is a vertical joint marked "M C 1680," accompanied by quoins.

The stable range is located to the left of the barn and includes a central stable door flanked by square windows, with three square openings above. Inside the barn, there are four bays with a rear aisle supported by three aisle posts. One post is cased in brick, while the others were concealed by hay during the survey. The aisle plate has braces, and the northernmost post features a brace to a tie-beam that supports a king post roof truss, though other trusses have been altered. The stable range, which is at right angles to the north end of the barn, is not included in this listing.
