Description

This is a barn with an attached stable, located approximately 10 metres west of Warren Farmhouse. The barn likely dates from the 17th century, while the stable is from the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, and the roofs are covered with asbestos slate for the barn and stone slate for the stable.

The barn features a five-bay plan with aisles on the east side. There are opposed wagon entrances to the fourth bay, with the entrance on the east side having a roof that extends between the aisles, and the west side featuring a segmental-headed archway. The porch on the east side has a cambered lintel above the wagon doorway, and there are doorways into each aisle, both with large rectangular lintels. The left aisle contains a blocked window in the first bay, and the south gable has a circular pitching hole. There is a lower addition at this end that is not included in the listing. The north gable wall has external stone steps leading to a loft over the stable.

The stable, which is set back at the north end, is two storeys high and has three bays. It features a wide square-headed doorway in the centre with a plain surround, two square windows at the ground floor, and a loft door along with a similar window at the first floor.

Inside the barn, there is a three-bay aisle arcade supported by large posts, with braces connecting to the tie-beams and the aisle-plate, which is scarf-jointed. The roof has king-post trusses with curved principals and Y-struts. The fifth bay is arranged as a byre. The stable retains its original stalls with mangers.
