Description

Crag View and Ivy Cottage are a pair of cottages built in the 19th century, originally designed as an eye-catcher. They are constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, topped with a stone slate roof. The cottages have a double-depth, two-unit plan with set-back side wings.

The main house, Crag View, is a two-storey, two-bay structure presenting a largely symmetrical facade. It features two bands between the floors, which extend across the wings, a recessed central doorway, and two stepped triple-light mullioned windows on each floor. There are chimneys on the ridge and at the left gable, with coping to the right-hand gable.

The wings are single-storeyed, appearing as two storeys in height, and are each two bays wide. The outer bays project slightly. A doorway is located in the set-back inner bay of the left wing (later altered into a window). The right wing features a sash window with altered glazing in its outer bay. Walls rise to first-floor level to create screens. The inner bay of the screen has a round-headed arch and pierced embattled parapet, while the outer bay has a pierced quatrefoil and a triangular pediment. These screened units have mono-pitched roofs.
