Description
The Grange is a farmhouse, later used as a house, dating from the mid to later 18th century, with an addition from the 19th century and subsequent alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, and has a stone slate roof. It originally comprised a three-unit front range with a two-unit lean-to addition to the rear. The front elevation has three storeys and four bays. The doorway is offset to the left of centre and has a plain surround. The ground floor has three tripartite sashes, the first floor has four sashes of varied widths, and the second floor has three sashes. All windows have glazing bars and plain surrounds. The roof has a ridge chimney and gable chimneys, with gable copings and kneelers. The rear addition includes some horizontal sliding sashes and a rear-wall chimney. An unusually high flight of external steps runs along the east side wall of the rear addition, leading to a second-floor doorway in the main range. The interior has been mostly altered, although a window with diamond lattice glazing remains in the former rear wall.
