Description

Moss House is a house that has been converted into a farmhouse, believed to have been built in 1782, with an early addition and some alterations. The structure is made of coursed squared sandstone with quoins and features a stone slate roof. It has a double-depth plan with an addition on the left end. The building is two storeys high and has five bays, with the first bay added later.

The design is asymmetrical, featuring a pediment above the second bay, which was originally the left end of the house. There is a doorway in the fourth bay, framed by pilaster jambs, with a glazed door and overlight, and an added canopy supported by carved brackets. The ground floor includes three French windows with margin panes, and double doors at the left end that match the glazing in the upper half. All these openings have plain surrounds, and the windows are fitted with louvred shutters. On the first floor, there are five windows, with sash windows in the second and fourth bays, while the others are three-light flat-faced flush-mullioned, all also with similar shutters. The building features moulded gutter brackets and a simple pediment above the second bay, which contains an oculus.

There is a ridge chimney at the junction of the first bay, as well as a gable chimney and gable coping at the right-hand end. At the rear, there is a single-storey service wing attached to the fifth bay, which includes a garage doorway in the first bay. The interior is noted to be of less interest.
