Description

This building is a barn and stable located approximately 15 meters south of Wood House Farmhouse, dated 1701 at the first floor of the stable. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble and handmade brown brick in English garden wall bond, with a stone slate roof. The structure has five bays oriented on a north-south axis, with the stable occupying the two bays at the north end. The walls are made of stone up to about one third of their height, with brick above. There is a south tie plate to the stable.

The waggon entrance is slightly offset to the left of center and is now fitted with sliding doors. There is a doorway at the left end and a square loading door above this. To the right of the waggon entrance, there are two diamond-pattern breathers. The stable features a large doorway with a four-pane overlight and a rectangular lintel, along with a square two-light window above it and one square window on each floor to the left. To the right of the upper window, there is a shouldered datestone inscribed with "R TCVK 1701."

The stable also has a ventilator in the roof and steps leading up to the loft doorway in the right-hand gable wall, with a small extension attached to the rear of the steps. Inside, there are two original collar trusses with angle braces and wind braces. The barn and stable form a group with Wood House Farmhouse, located approximately 15 meters to the north.
