Description
2 and 4 Merscar Lane are a pair of cottages dated 1819, located in Burscough. The cottages are constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond and feature a slate roof. They are double-depth, with No. 2 on the right being single-fronted and No. 4 being double-fronted. Both cottages have two low storeys and a total of three windows, with No. 2 having its doorway on the left and No. 4 having a central doorway. Each doorway has a wedge lintel and is now protected by gabled wooden porches. The cottages also feature 2-light casement windows with raised sills and large wedge lintels; the windows at No. 2 are wider, and all have altered glazing. Above the doorway of No. 4, there is a datestone inscribed with "W J + E 1819." The cottages have a ridge chimney at the junction and gable chimneys. They have been altered and enlarged at the rear.
