Description
Whitefield House is a farmhouse, now used as a store, dated 1752 on the porch. The building has been extended and altered over time. It is constructed of handmade brick, which is now fully rendered, and features a stone slate roof. The house currently has three bays, but it likely started as two bays with a shallow double-depth plan and a central projecting porch.
It stands two storeys tall; except for the first bay, the facade is symmetrical. The central gabled porch extends to the eaves and has a square-headed doorway with imposts and a keystone, which suggests it may have originally had an arched opening. The keystone is shouldered and inscribed with a cursive "B" and "J J 1752." There are two three-light sliding sash windows on each floor, with the lower windows having flattened segmental heads.
Chimneys are positioned at the front of the ridge on each original gable wall. The added bay to the left features a square-headed three-light sliding sash window on each floor and a gable chimney. The right-hand gable wall has an extruded chimney and a square window on the first floor. The rear of the house includes a two-light sliding sash stairlight in the center of the original building, a doorway leading to the addition, and several other sliding sash windows. Inside, the layout has been altered, but it still retains a doglegged staircase with turned balusters.
