Description

Merscar House is a farmhouse, likely dating from the late 17th or earlier 18th century, and remodelled in the later 18th century with subsequent alterations. It is constructed of pebble-dashed render on brick, with sandstone dressings and a composition tile roof. The building has a square plan based on a two-unit baffle-entry range, with a projecting central porch and additions to the rear. It has two storeys and attics, with a symmetrical facade featuring a 1:1:1 window arrangement. The two-storey porch has a square-headed outer doorway with a wedge lintel, and a two-light window above with a raised sill and rectangular lintel. There are two oblong windows on each floor, all with raised sills and rectangular lintels, though the glazing has been altered. A ridge chimney sits in the centre, with a gable chimney to the left. Gable walls and the rear of the building have altered windows. The interior of the second bay features a large inglenook with a cambered bressummer and timber heck, both ovolo moulded with cyma stops, along with lateral beams of similar moulding. The first floor has crudely-chamfered lateral beams.
