Description
This building is a warehouse, office, and drying floor located to the southeast of Thwaite Mill, likely constructed in the early to mid-19th century and consisting of three sections. It is made of red brick in English Garden Wall bond with a slate roof. The west gable facing the road features two vertical joints that separate the three parts: the warehouse on the right, the time-office in the center, and the drying floor on the left. The center and right sections are two stories tall and have stone gable coping. The south side has five bays, with a central segmental-headed wagon entrance that includes long-and-short jambstones and stepped voussoirs, along with flat-arched windows. The north side and the west corner of the drying floor have low brick buttresses that create four bays, each containing two round-headed arches for the fireboxes of a hypocaust system. There is a large chimney at the east end and another on the slope of the roof. At the time of the survey in 1986, conversion work was in progress.
