Description
The machine shop located east of Thwaite Mill is an early 19th-century structure, with a later addition. It is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof, built on a retaining wall made of tooled sandstone blocks. The building is a long rectangular single-storey structure, consisting of two sections, positioned at right angles to Thwaite Mill across the access road. The gable end includes a doorway and stone gable coping, with a pitched canopy that bridges the road and connects the two buildings. On the south side, which overlooks the mill race, there are two flat-arched fixed windows with small panes in the older section, and three similar windows in the extension. The north side also has some similar openings.
