Description
This is a bridge or causeway that crosses the mill stream to the east of Thwaite Mill, built between 1823 and 1825. It features tooled sandstone construction and has two segmental arches that span the outlets from the water wheels. The bridge includes a decorative band and a parapet with rounded coping stones. On the south side, there is a retaining wall made of similar materials, which has a flight of stone steps that descends from east to west. The angle between the bridge and the retaining wall was formerly bridged for a railway line, but this has been replaced by a light wooden bridge.
