Description

The garden studio and walls with gate piers to Headingley Terrace in Leeds were built around 1840. This structure is made of ashlar and coursed stone, topped with a slate roof. The garden building is located approximately 5 meters northwest of No. 5 Headingley Road and No. 2 Cumberland Road, which are part of the west end of Headingley Terrace. It is a small, single-storey building featuring a central French window with a corniced hood supported by console brackets, flanked by tall windows. Angle pilasters support an entablature with a moulded cornice and a blocking course that has a raised center, leading to a hipped roof with a central light.

The walls surrounding Headingley Terrace on the west, south, and east sides are about 2 meters high and 175 meters long overall, with shallow pedimented coping stones. There are three sets of gate piers: one on Cumberland Road features a narrow gateway with a ramped stone lintel and a wider carriage entrance to the terrace with square pedimented piers; a similar set of piers is found at the Grosvenor Road entrance. The building is believed to have originally been constructed as an artist's studio.
