Description

Number 44A, originally a United Reformed church and now used as offices, was built in 1864 by Cuthbert Brodrick. The building is constructed of rock-faced coursed gritstone with ashlar details and features a slate roof. It is designed in the Gothic Revival style, with a nave and aisles and a tower at the southeast corner.

The south front has a steep flight of stone steps leading up to a shallow gabled porch. This porch features paired doors set in traceried arches, with an outer moulded arch and attached columns. Above the porch is a gable with a carved roundel at the apex. The aisles are adorned with cusped lancet windows and a rose window above. To the right, there is a three-stage tower with moulded angles and a stone spire. The left and right returns of the building show the aisles with tall two-light lancets, rose windows at the heads, and small gables above, with buttresses in between that are crowned by finely carved grotesque animals.

The interior has not been inspected but is reputed to contain cast-iron columns with foliage at the capitals.
