Description
The Metre House and two cottages to the south-west of Stonebridge Mills were built around 1830. They are constructed from handmade red and brown brick with stone dressings and have slate roofs, although some parts of the roofs are missing. The buildings are two storeys high and have four windows on the south-east face. From left to right, there is a wide plank door set in a stone surround, a partially blocked single light glazing bar sash, a four-panel door also in a stone surround, and a three-light casement. This is followed by a two-panel door with a stone surround and two three-light glazing bar sashes. Above these, there are four three-light glazing bar sashes, with the one on the left being slightly narrower. All the windows feature segment brick heads and stone sills. These cottages were specifically built to provide housing for workers at Stonebridge Mill.
