Description

This early 19th-century boundary wall surrounds Lawns House, featuring two sets of gate piers and gates. The main section of the wall is approximately 50 meters long. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with rounded coping, and rises to a side gateway linked to a service wing of the house. The boundary wall itself is approximately 15 meters long on either side of the main gateways.

The main gateway has tapering square-section piers topped with pedimented capstones and flat copings to ramped and curved flanking walls. The iron double gates are ornamented with X-braces and flattened fleur-de-lis finials. A second set of gate piers to the west are square in section, have a plinth, and are finished with shallow pedimented capstones. The interior of the wall has not been inspected. The wall is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the Lawns House estate.
