Description
The war memorial located on Lawns Lane in Farnley, Leeds, was constructed around 1920 and is made of Portland stone. It features a square base that is approximately 3 meters high, with a stepped and tapering shaft. The shaft includes rectangular panels that display inscriptions and figures in relief.
On the east face, there is an inscription that reads: "TO THE MEN/ OF FARNLEY/ ALL HONOUR/ GIVE TO/ THOSE/ WHO NOBLY/ STRIVING/ NOBLY FELL/ THAT WE/ MIGHT/ LIVE/ 1914.1918", accompanied by a figure of an old man with a child above it. The north and south sides have panels listing 64 names, with additional reliefs depicting a sailor alongside a battleship in the background, and a woman with a child and dog in front of a wall, with marching soldiers visible beyond.
