Description
The garden wall, gazebo, potting sheds, and cart shed at Farnley Hall were built around 1806. They are constructed from coursed gritstone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a stone slate roof on both the gazebo and the cart shed.
The gazebo is two stories tall with a square plan. It features an entrance on the east side with tie-stone jambs and a cantilevered stone hood, flanked by small round-headed windows. There is a blocked window above and a rectangular panel. The south side has a large round-arched recess that contains a pilastered 16-pane sash window with margin lights and a cornice. The gazebo has an eaves cornice and a pyramid roof.
To the east of the gazebo is an adjoining wall made of dressed stone, which has been heightened with red brick and is approximately 30 meters long. It includes seven doorways leading to lean-to outbuildings that were formerly used as potting sheds and for garden storage. All the doorways have plain stone architraves, with a central entry featuring a round arch.
The northern wall contains a three-bay cart shed facing west, supported by two octagonal stone shafts. The side faces of the cart shed have incised slots for wooden rails and support a lean-to stone slate roof with brick and stone end walls. The southern wall is approximately 80 meters long and features a gabled room at the center, with rebuilt brick seating at the southern end. The interior was not inspected.
