SE 0801 38 BRITANNIA ROAD Slaithwaite 5/53 Britannia Mills Chimney -

Mid C19. Mill chimney. Hammer dressed stone with ashlar dressings. Approxi- mately 100 ft. Eight-sided with steel reinforcement to angles and steel tie-bars at approximately 5 ft intervals. At the top is a brick parapet (possible later addition) supported by a large ashlar cornice with parapet. The cornice is supported by 24 moulded brackets (3 per side) which are supported on an ashlar string course. Below the string course are 6 slender niches with ashlar semi- circular arched heads which are slightly pronounced. Below the niches is a further ashlar string course.
