Description
This is a barn located to the southwest of Hunsworth Lodge, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with walling from the 18th century or early 19th century. The barn features rubble walls and a stone slate roof. It has an elliptical arched doorway and consists of five bays. There are four complete timber frames with wall plates and braced posts, along with king post trusses that are braced to the ridge. At the rear, there is an outshut with aisle-ties connecting to the wall plates. Two of the trusses have extended king posts, one lacks a king post but has principal rafters that cross at the apex and are pegged, and one truss has been replaced. The barn showcases roughly hewn timbers, pegged joints, and carpenter's marks. Notably, at the right end, some studding with wattle and plaster still survives, although some timbers have been replaced.
