Description

This is a barn, likely dating back to the 16th or 17th century, situated in Finthorpe Lane, Almondbury. The barn is constructed of coursed rubble stone, with a pitched roof covered in stone slates, featuring a catslide to the north. The south side of the barn exhibits a timber frame infilled with red brick. The barn is cruck-framed, with five bays. It features collars and, in one truss, a tie-beam set at wall plate level; the others show tenons suggesting they originally had tie-beams. Spurs connect the crucks to the wall posts, and purlins are braced to the cruck blades. Wall posts on the south side are braced to the wall plate. An aisle with mistals is present on the north side, alongside a barn porch with a gabled roof and double doors. A wing, possibly of the 17th century, extends to the north, with a hammer-dressed stone extension added in the 19th century. This wing is timber-framed with hammer-dressed stone nogging and features a stone slate roof. It includes three trusses: one queen-post truss, one with closely spaced studs, and one king-post truss. Various 19th-century openings are visible, including one planked stable door.
